Privacy Policies

Privacy Policy is a legal agreement that explains what kinds of personal information you gather from clients.  It shows how you use this information and keep it safe.  The Australian Privacy Principles (or APPs) are the cornerstone of the privacy protection framework in the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act). They apply to any organisation or agency the Privacy Act covers.
Firstly, you need to get A Privacy Policy by law if you are collecting private information from your clients.  By taking your clients information you are in breach if you dont have a policy.  This includes dates of birth, private address, credit card details, bank details, full name and any financial detail.  Moreover, your privacy policy advises what you do with any private information.  A Privacy Policy is a legal agreement.  It documents how you store the information.  Your privacy policy shows how information is protected.  It shows who is the privacy officer.  Further, it states what you will do with any information.  Finally, a breach of an Australian Privacy Principle is an ‘interference with the privacy of an individual’ and can lead to regulatory action and penalties.
